Most of us have felt bored at work. We tend to take breaks frequently and walk around the workspace aimlessly. More often than not we find ourselves chatting with our co-workers about the latest news or going on our social media sites to escape the boredom.
Here are some tips to help you avoid getting bored at work often
Choose a job that you like
Boredom generally happens when you don’t like your job so you must take responsibility of your career. Don’t choose a 9 to 5 job that you don’t like and have minimum prospects of career growth. Getting stuck in a job that you don’t like is the worst thing that can happen to you. If there is a mismatch between you and your work, you will get bored.
Talk to your boss
You can’t straight up tell your boss that you are bored at work. It will most likely get you fired you’re your job. However, you can talk to him about giving you challenging works or targets to reach. You can also take the initiative to solve any challenges that your boss might be facing at work. This way you will avoid monotonous work by solving complex problems and overtaking challenging work.
Decorate your desk space.
Change up your boring and plain desk space and see how it improves your mood and productivity. Specifically, use bright colors like blue, green, yellow and red which will boost your focus, productivity and mood. A bright and clean workspace will keep your energy a little bit higher and keep you motivated to work when you’re starting to feel that slump. Add colorful stationary, photos, calendars and plants to your desk space.
Set yourself targets
Try to set yourself small targets that are achievable. This will motivate you to stay focused and complete your work in time. You can also give yourself rewards for achieving each target to encourage you to work. Your reward doesn’t have to be something big, it can be simple like a 5 minute break to check your phone or a wander across the office to stretch your legs. You’ll subconsciously feel proud of completing your targets and you will stay motivated.
Delegate your work
Sometimes doing the same work every day will make your work monotonous and boring. If you are working in a team, try delegating some of the work to your team members. Effectively delegating the work to team members will ensure that you will have time for other work.
Listen to music
If you find yourself bored at work, try listening to some music while working. However, avoid fast paced songs and songs with lyrics which will distract you from your work. Try listening to music that doesn’t have lyrics to avoid singing along with the song. Finally, make sure to use earphones so that you don’t disturb your co-workers.
If none of these work and you still get bored at your job, then it is most probably because you hate your job. And it’s time to find a new job that matches your passion career expectations.
